Sixth Avenue improvements start downtown, cause traffic restrictions

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Drivers will see a construction closure downtown for the next two weeks, as City of Tucson workers install a new set of traffic signals.

The intersection of Toole Avenue and Sixth Avenue will shut down on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The 6th Avenue Underpass will also close to accommodate this roadwork.

The overnight closures continue again next week, from Monday, January 19 through Wednesday, January 21.

Crews will keep working in the general area through March. You can expect some travel restrictions here from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

This work is part of a project set to improve Sixth Avenue from Seventh Street to Broadway Boulevard. This includes new pavement, striping and signage at all the intersections in this area.

This is all funded by The Federal Transit Administration.
