TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tax season is here and the IRS has a warning for those who fill out their 1040 to watch out for fake emails or websites looking to steal personal information.
So-called "phishing" schemes continue to rank high on the annual IRS list of "Dirty Dozen" tax season scams. Phishing usually involves an unsolicited email or a fake website that can look legitimate but ultimately hijacks personal and financial information.
The IRS commissioner says the agency will not send an email about a bill or refund out of the blue, so be wary of unexpected e-mails that are supposedly from the tax man.
