Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women's basketball team (12-10, 9-5, in ACCAC conference) dominated in its win on Wednesday at the West Campus.
The Aztecs started the game on a 21-4 run in the first nine-plus minutes and went on to beat Tohono O'Odham Community College 77-44 and earn their third straight win. The Aztecs also swept the regular season series as they won in Sells back in November.
The Aztecs surrendered just 16 points in the first half and led 45-16 at the break. Jayla Brown (Desert Vista HS) gave the Aztecs their biggest lead of the game when she completed a three-point play with 48.4 seconds left which ended up being the final score.
Melody McLaughlin (Mountain View HS), this week's NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week, had a double-double after the first half and finished the game with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Gabby Banales (Cienega HS) scored a game-high 18 points as she went 4 for 8 from three-point range. Alexa Arndt (Sabino HS) had a double-double of her own with 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Brown and Shalise Fernander (Flowing Wells HS) also each contributed with 12 points.
The Aztecs will play at Glendale Community College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
