    All of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun on Monday, August 21, 2017, NASA said. It is the first total solar eclipse to pass the entire continental United States since June 8, 1918.

 Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College softball team (6-1, 4-0 in ACCAC) picked up its second straight conference sweep on Tuesday at the West Campus.

The Aztecs beat Mesa Community College as the pitching staff of Alexis Alfonso (Canyon del Oro HS) and Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) held the Mesa offense in check. Brianna Quiroz (Tucson Magnet HS) went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and a sacrifice for the day.

Pima CC Aztecs 10, Mesa CC Thunderbirds 1 (5 innings)

The Aztecs put up six runs in the 4th inning in their 10-1 win in the first game. Jackie Hernandez (Desert Ridge HS) hit a two-run RBI single with bases loaded to make it 6-1 in that 4th inning. A few batters later, Christine Olivas (Hamilton HS) hit an RBI single and Quiroz brought her in to score with an RBI double to make it 9-1. Hernandez went 2 for 3 with three RBIs while Keona Hunter (Santa Rita HS) finished 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Quiroz was 3 for 3 with an RBI.

Alfonso picked up the win (3-1) after she went four innings and gave up one run (one earned) on two hits with two strikeouts. Emily Robinson (Ironwood Ridge HS) pitched the 5th inning and set Mesa down in order. She had one strikeout.

Pima CC Aztecs 5, Mesa CC Thunderbirds 1

Alexis Ayala (Sunnyside HS) put the Aztecs up for good in the second game when she hit a two-run RBI single with the bases loaded in the 3rd inning as the Aztecs won 5-1. Ayala scored the fifth run of the game in the same inning after Quiroz had a sacrifice-fly RBI. Ayala was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Hunter finished 1 for 4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Araceli Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) went 1 for 2 with a run scored, two walks and two stolen bases and Quiroz went 1 for 1 with an RBI and a sacrifice.

Orduno picked up the win (2-0) after she pitched a complete-game giving up one run (one earned) on five hits with one strikeout and one walk.

The Aztecs will host Yavapai College at the West Campus on Thursday in a conference doubleheader. The games will be at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
