TUCSON, AZ - Today marked the unofficial start of the Arizona sand volleyball team's 2015 season. Arizona played in a five set match against one another for the Red-Blue scrimmage. The Wildcats performance throughout was strong and it showed that a bright future lies ahead. With the first match of the season next weekend, the team feels confident after today's performance.
"Today we tried speeding the game up and attempted to make quicker and easier plays," Sophomore Mckenna Witt said. "In this case we tried to hit the ball rather than trying to shoot it. We were just so excited to finally play in front of a crowd because for months we have just been playing in front of each other."
The team competed very well today and it was a great opportunity for the fans to catch the Wildcats in action before their first official game against Texas Christian University on Mar. 6, 2015. The match will be at 1 p.m. on Jimenez Field.
"I think that we have put in a lot of work in the off season," head coach Steve Walker said. "For a number of these players it has been 10 months of sacrifice, sweat and dedication. We have some things to work on, but I think we have the potential to win every match and there is no reason we cannot go out and be successful when we take the court."
The upcoming season looks promising for the 2015 sand volleyball team. Arizona begins its season on March 6 when it hosts the Wildcat Invitational.
