Wildcat sand volleyball starts with a sweep

 TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona's sand volleyball team hosted TCU in the Arizona Invitational earlier today. The Wildcats swept the Horned Frogs 5-0 in the inaugural season opener at the Arizona Sand Volleyball Courts.

In the opening round the Arizona No. 4 team of Taylor Arizobal and Allie Cook earned the team's first victory of the day on court one as they defeated Blaire Pickens and Sarah Grantham, 21-4, 21-18.  

On court two, the Arizona tandem of Sarah Seiber and Hayley Devlin won in-consecutive sets against Chyanne Perkins and Chyna Perkins, 21-5, 21-13. The No. 6 team including Emily Kiser and Olivia Macdonald took the second set defeating TCU in their first match of the day, 21-16, 21-8.

In the next round of competition, Arizona's No. 1 team of Madi Kingdon and Kaitlyn Leary earned a straight set victory over Shane Peters and Natalie Gower, 21-7, 21-11.

Meanwhile, the team of Madison and McKenna Witt clinched the sweep for the Wildcats at the No. 2 position as they dominated Macy Capen and Ashley Smith, 21-11, 21-6.

The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow as the Arizona Invitational continues at 9 a.m., with Cats playing at 11 a.m. The UA will take on LSU before closing out the tournament against Arizona State at 4:30 p.m.
