Controlled burn at Sweetwater Wetlands rescheduled for Tuesday

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Smoke rising from Tucson's west side on Tuesday morning is not necessarily cause for alarm.

The Tucson Fire Department will be doing its yearly controlled burn at the Sweetwater Wetlands near Interstate 10 and Prince Road for a few hours, starting at 8:15 a.m.

The burn gets rid of old and dead plants where mosquitoes like to live and breed. It's also a chance for firefighters to sharpen their skills for brush fire season.

The controlled burn was rescheduled to March 17 from a weekend earlier in the year because of weather concerns.
