TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The public will get to enjoy the beautiful spring weather in Tucson, with free admission into both districts of Saguaro National Park Monday on March 30: Cesar Chavez Day.
There are new visitor center exhibits, a Hispanic heritage film, and a bilingual guided hike offered as well.
"Saguaro National Park has a rich history of Hispanic and Latino heritage and we honor Cesar Chavez and the contributions that he made to civil rights," said Andy L. Fisher, Chief of Interpretation at Saguaro National Park, in a recent release.
Saguaro National Park officially opened their new permanent exhibit collection in the Rincon Mountain Visitor Center (east) on Thursday, March 11. Fisher remarked that the park “listened carefully to our local community as we planned this new exhibit project, and we heard the need for education about the park in Spanish language.” The new collection is bilingual - English and Spanish - and is open to everyone. The Rincon Mountain Visitor center also features a film titled “A Common Heritage” which looks back to the Hispanic settlement of the Rincon Valley and the legacy Saguaro National Park continues to protect. The film is available in both English and Spanish, with a special Spanish viewing at 1pm.
In addition to the exhibits and the film, the park will host a guided hike in Spanish and English titled 'The Supermarket Outside Your Front Door' discussing traditional, edible, and medicinal uses of plants in the Sonoran desert. Meet in the Rincon Mountain Visitor Center (east) at 11 am to participate in this hike – no reservations required.
Western National Parks Association will be offering a 15 percent discount on all book and gift sales to all visitors in both of Saguaro National Park's visitor centers on Monday, March 30.
Active duty members of the U.S. Military and their dependents are reminded that they may be issued a free America the Beautiful pass any day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at either visitor center. This pass will permit the pass owner, and up to 3 other adults traveling with them, entrance into all National Parks for 12 months. They must show a current, valid military identification card to qualify for the pass. Additional passes are available to anyone for purchase. Inquire inside either visitor center for additional information.
Please remember that the fee free day waives entrance fees only. Additional user fees, such as backcountry camping permit fees, still apply.
