SAN SIMON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Interstate 10 travelers can expect rest stop closures between Tucson and New Mexico, while construction workers renovate the facilities.
The eastbound and westbound San Simon rest areas, located on I-10 near the Arizona-New Mexico state line, will remain closed to the public for about five months.
Arizona Department of Transportation crews are working to improve the water and septic systems, as well as the buildings and structures. They will also bring all facilities up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
While the San Simon rest areas are closed, the I-10 rest area at Texas Canyon (located between Willcox and Benson) will stay open for drivers.
