TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - An overnight paving project downtown will cause issues for drivers headed through the area.
Crews will begin paving procedures on Sixth Avenue from Toole Avenue to Congress Street Monday night. This will last from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. This milling work should take two days to complete.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Sixth Avenue will shut down from Seventh Street (near the Sixth Avenue Underpass) to Congress Street for paving. This portion of the project will also require the closure of the Sixth Avenue Underpass. This closure will go from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Next week, construction will also take place on Toole Avenue from Fourth Avenue to Stone Avenue and on Sixth Avenue from Congress Street to Broadway Boulevard. This micro sealing roadwork will last from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Tuesday, April 7 to Thursday, April 9.
The work is all part of a project to finalize the two-way conversion of Sixth Avenue from Seventh Street to Broadway Boulevard. This includes new traffic signals, sidewalks, and ADA accessible ramps. Drivers will also see new pavement, new signage and new striping on portions of Sixth Avenue.
