TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Home is where the heart is.
Salpointe Catholic track grad Alyssa Thompson is back in Tucson and competing in her first season as an Arizona Wildcat.
The sophomore transferred home last fall after spending her freshman season at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem North Carolina.
Thompson, who helped the Lancers win the 2013 state track and field championship in Division II, made a mark in her lone season for the Demon Deacons.
She set the school record in the indoor pentathlon (3,813 points) and finished third in the outdoor heptathlon for Wake Forest at the 2014 ACC Track and Field Championships.
She hit the ground running indoor for the Cats this year when in her first meet she won the women's pentathlon long jump with a personal-best mark of 19-11.75 (6.09m).
Thompson later bested that Wake Forest personal record when she placed third in the pentathlon at both the New Mexico Classic (3,829) and the MPSF Championships (3,904).
Thompson is competing in her first outdoor meet for UA this weekend at the Jim Click Shootout.
