SVB: Cats Go Undefeated in ASU Sand Challenge

Tenth-ranked Arizona sand volleyball continued their undefeated weekend with victories over Cal State Bakersfield and New Mexico on Saturday. UA improved to 13-1 on the year with the sweeps.

Against CSUB, the Wildcats swept downing the RoadRunners 5-0.

Arizona's No. 1 team of Madi Kingdon and Kaitlyn Leary got an easy win against Mariah Alvidrez and Molly O'Hagan (21-9, 21-15), Madison and Mckenna Witt dominated against CSUB's No. 2 team of Sydney Haynes and Danika Youngbloog (21-9, 21-15). No.3 team of Rachel Rhoades and Kendall Polan got a victory over Sara Little and Sophie Flemion (21-18, 21-10).

Allie Cook and Taylor Arizobal beat the RoadRunners in straight sets against Kelsee Sawyer and Hazel Perrens (21-17, 21-10). Arizona's No. 5 team of Olivia Macdonald and Taylor Lane went to three sets, but defeated Megan Johnson and Eryn Riley (26-24, 18-21, 15-1).

The Wildcats would go on to sweep New Mexico in all but one match, 4-1. UA was not a stranger to the Lobos as the Cats dominated in last weekend's two-day victories 5-0, 4-1.

No. 2 team of Madison and McKenna Witt defeated the Lobos team of Ashley Kelsey and Hannah Johnson (21-13 21-14). UA's Madi Kingdon and Kaitlyn Leary of the No. 1 team got a victory over Devanne Sours and Chloe Cappell in straight sets (21-16, 21-11).

Arizona's Kendall Polan and Rachel Rhoades took the court getting a victory over New Mexico's No. 3 team of Julia Warren and Eastyn Baleto (21-19, 21-9).

The Lobos No. 4 team of Ashley Newman and Lise Rugland picked up a win in the first match against Taylor Arizobal and Allie Cook 21-17, 21-14.

UA's Sarah Seiber and Hailey Devlin of the No. 5 team closed out the match with a straight set victory against Jackie Baro and Maddie Mayfield straight set victory over the Lobos No. 5 team of Jackie Baro and Taylor Cross (21-7, 21-15).

Arizona became the ASU Sand Challenge champions.
