TENNIS: Falcons roll through Nighthawks

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - In the end the #2 Catalina Foothills girls tennis team had too much firepower for the 3rd ranked Nighthawks of Ironwood Ridge.

The Falcons (14-0) won the much anticipated showdown 7-1.

One match did not get completed due to darkness and it was the top match of the night.

The #1 singles square off between defending Div. II state champion Kirtana Bhat (Catalina Foothills) and Kelsey Brown (Ironwood Ridge) was halted due to darkness with Brown leading 4-3 in the 10-point 3rd set tiebreaker.

Brown won the first 6-2 before Bhat rallied to take the second set 6-4.

Bhat is back playing doubles this season. She and her older sister Rachana won the Division II state doubles championships in 2012 and 2013.

The senior is now partnered with freshman Abby Watson and the pair dominated defending doubles state titlist Brown and Allie Knox, 8-1.

The Falcons have won 13 of the last 15 state championships in their division including the last two.

Their regular season is over while the Nighthawks (11-1) still have matches remaining against Marana and Flowing Wells.
