TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

#4 Tucson High and 5th ranked Pusch Ridge Christian Academy came away winners Saturday on the baseball diamond in matchups against higher ranked opponents.

The Badgers (16-5) got a brilliant 11-strikeout performance from junior Jose Contreras to beat #2 Canyon del Oro 3-1 at Cherry Field.

Three of Contreras strike outs came in the 4th inning allowing him to escape a bases loaded jam.

Catcher Miguel Figueroa homered for THMS and his brother Anthony came off the bench in the bottom of the sixth and provided a pinch-hit RBI double.

The loss was just the Dorados second this season (21-2).

Over on the northside, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy starter Aaron Noller also escaped a bases loaded jam as he and Alan Ramirez combined on the hill to hold down 2nd ranked Glendale Joy Christian 3-1.

The Lions were the runner-ups last season in Division IV and raised their record to 16-6. The loss dropped the Eagles to 18-8.
