SVB: Cats easily take down rival ASU

TUCSON, AZ -

The tenth-ranked Arizona sand volleyball (16-3) defeated rival Arizona State (5-11) on senior night, Wednesday evening, 4-1.

Seniors Taylor Lane, Kaitlyn Leary, Kendall Polan, Emily Kiser, Allie Cook, Madi Kingdon, Rachel Rhoades, and Taylor Arizobal were all presented with roses from head coach Steve Walker and assistant coach Tayyiba Haneef-Park. The ladies took the sand with family and friends as they would be entering BearDown Beach for the last time.

“It was a nice way to send the seniors out. The players expired eligibility out in style and obviously when you play your rivals to the north you want to get a win,' said Coach Walker. “I was really happy with our focus today. Both teams came off of a long weekend of play at the Pac-12 Invitational and to me it was about who was going to gather the resources, step out here and execute play. I believe we did a great job of that today.”

Cats won four of the matches in straight sets and fell to ASU in one match, finishing 4-1.

The No. 1 team of Madison and McKenna Witt took the match against the team of Bianca Arellano and Macey Gardner with a win, (21-9, 21-17).

Madi Kingdon and Kaitlyn Leary, the Wildcats' No. 2 pair, got a victory over Sun Devils Jordy Checkal and Bethany Jorgensen in straight sets, (21-11, 21-13).

Arizona State's No. 3 team of McKenzie Wiley and Sydney Palmer picked up a win against Kendall Polan and Rachel Rhoades in a tough fight, (21-19, 21-14).

The Wildcats' No. 4 duo of Taylor Arizobal and Taylor Lane added another easy win against the Sun Devils' McKenzie Willey and Sydney Palmer (21-9, 21-11).

Sarah Seiber and Hailey Devlin secured the sweep in straight sets beating ASU's No. 5 team of Frances Giedraitis and Andi Lowrance (21-17, 21-12).

Arizona's exhibition team of Emily Kiser, Olivia Macdonald and Allie Cook went to three sets ultimately getting a victory over the No. 6 team of Mia Rivera and Kwyn Johnson, (25-23, 21-19, 15-10)

UA goes back on the road as they compete against Oregon and Boise State Boise, ID.
