TUCSON, AZ - The tenth-ranked Arizona sand volleyball (16-3) defeated rival Arizona State (5-11) on senior night, Wednesday evening, 4-1.
Seniors Taylor Lane, Kaitlyn Leary, Kendall Polan, Emily Kiser, Allie Cook, Madi Kingdon, Rachel Rhoades, and Taylor Arizobal were all presented with roses from head coach Steve Walker and assistant coach Tayyiba Haneef-Park. The ladies took the sand with family and friends as they would be entering BearDown Beach for the last time.
"It was a nice way to send the seniors out. The players expired eligibility out in style and obviously when you play your rivals to the north you want to get a win,' said Coach Walker. "I was really happy with our focus today. Both teams came off of a long weekend of play at the Pac-12 Invitational and to me it was about who was going to gather the resources, step out here and execute play. I believe we did a great job of that today."
Cats won four of the matches in straight sets and fell to ASU in one match, finishing 4-1.
The No. 1 team of Madison and McKenna Witt took the match against the team of Bianca Arellano and Macey Gardner with a win, (21-9, 21-17).
