Weekend paving causes downtown road closure

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A popular downtown road will close to traffic this weekend for milling and paving work.

City of Tucson officials will pave Stone Avenue between Toole Avenue and Alameda Street for road improvement.

The closure will last from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. If possible, drivers should avoid the area. Toole Avenue/Franklin Street is a good detour, but still expect traffic delays.

When entering downtown from the north, commuters can use Sixth Avenue or Church Avenue as alternate routes.

This pavement project is part of Road Recovery, a $100 million, five year street bond program. It's funded by voter-approved bonds.
