Former Arizona Wildcat standout forward Ify Ibekwe helped make history last week, as she led Spar Citylift Uni Girona to its first Spanish League Championship last Thursday.
Ibekwe was the star of the night, as she recorded a double-double, going for a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting a stellar 10-of-14 from the field in Spar Citylift Uni Girona's convinving 72-54 win over Perfumerias Avenida in the championship game.
"It feels amazing to win the Spanish Championship," said Ibekwe. "My team and I went through a lot of adversity and overcame a lot of obstacles this season, but our common goal was always to win the title and we stuck together as a team, despite coaching changes and injuries.
"This is just such a wonderful feeling and I'm beyond thankful for this,"Ibekwe added. "I'm beyond blessed to be a part of the 2014-15 Spar Citylift Uni Girona women's basketball team."

"I'm so happy for Ify," said UA head coach Niya Butts. "Winning a championship is always the ultimate goal, no matter what level you're playing at. She is an outstanding talent and a great competitor."
