Rillito Park Racetrack hosting Kentucky Derby event

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

This weekend officials with Rillito Park Racetrack are making it possible for thoroughbred racing fans to catch all the action at Churchill Downs with a watch and wager event. Doors will open on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 a.m., there will be free admission and parking, as well as happy hour specials. 

On May 1, join the party as the three-year-old fillies make their run during the Kentucky Oaks. 

Derby Day will begin on May 2, as the colts make their 'Run for the Roses'.  Mint juleps, the official drink of the Kentucky Derby will be served in souvenir glasses; there will also be a 'southern buffet', hat contest and live music from local band Titan Valley Warheads.  

On Sunday there will be a follow-up to the Derby, with 'Bloody Mary Sunday'. Doors to the clubhouse will open at 9:30 a.m. so racing fans can watch and wager on their favorite tracks across the U.S. 

Simulcasts will continue each Saturday and Sunday at Rillito Park until June 6.
