TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A 51-year-old man who was the driver in a rollover crash Thursday night is facing homicide charges following the death of his passenger on Saturday.

According to the Tucson Police Department, Francisco Sanchez-Gamez, 51, was driving a 1982 Winnebago eastbound on East Ajo Way Thursday just before 11 p.m. As he approached South Park Avenue, police say, he swerved into the westbound lanes of Ajo, striking the raised curb and continuing northbound over the curb and into an easement, where the vehicle struck a large boulder and utility lines before rolling over.

When Tucson Police and rescuers from the Tucson Fire Department arrived, they found Sanchez-Gamez and his passenger, Evangelina Orozco, 53. Orozco was taken to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Sanchez-Gamez had non-life-threatening injuries but was also taken to the hospital, according to TPD spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Bay.

Investigators found that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the wreck and booked Sanchez-Gamez into the Pima County Jail on Thursday for one count of aggravated assault, according to Bay.

Orozco died of her injuries on Saturday, so detectives have added a second-degree murder charge.

The investigation is ongoing.
