– University of Arizona freshman George Cunningham earned a place in the NCAA Regional as an individual, the NCAA announced on Monday. Cunningham will play at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. May 14-16 and will need to finish as the top individual in order to advance to the NCAA Championship final.
Cunningham, a freshman from Tucson, has played in 13 tournaments this year and currently has a 71.5 per round stroke average. The 71.5 average ranks second on Arizona's freshman single-season list and is tied for ninth on the all-time list.
A second-team All-Pac-12 selection, Cunningham recorded six Top 10s and nine Top 20s, while posting 18 rounds of par or better during his initial year on campus. He opened his career with a tie for sixth place at the Southwestern Intercollegiate, and most recently, tied for third at the Pac-12 Championship.
