Desert Christian and Empire are state bound

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Desert Christian will play for a third straight baseball championship in Division IV.

The Eagles dispatched of Glendale Joy Christian Saturday 10-1 at the Goodyear Complex to raise their season record to 30-1.

Desert Christian has won the last two titles in Division IV, beating Phoenix Christian in 2013 and Pusch Ridge in 2014.

The Lions had a chance to earn a title-game rematch with the Eagles but it didn't happen. PRCA lost in their semifinal game to Kearny Ray 5-4 on a walkoff double by the Bearcats Jordan Pace in the bottom of the seventh.

Ray and Desert Christian will play next Saturday evening (7 p.m.) at Maryvale Stadium in Phoenix.

In other action Saturday, Catalina Foothills (21-11) saw their season come to an end with an 11-0 loss to Greenway in a Division II elimination game.

Greenway will now face Sunnyside on Monday at Maryvale (6:30 p.m.). That game will follow the contest between Salpointe Catholic and Peoria Sunrise Mountain.

In Softball, Canyon del Oro ended Sahuaro's season winning a 12-11 thriller. Tucson's season is also over as the Badgers lost in a Division II elimination game to Desert Edge 6-4.

In Division III, Empire advanced to Monday's state championship game with a 3-2 win over Nogales.

Finally in high school tennis, Catalina Foothills beat Salpointe Catholic 5-0 to take home the Div. II championship while Desert Christian lost to Thatcher 5-4 in Div. III.
