2015 Memorial Day events in Southern Arizona

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Events across southern Arizona to honor those on Memorial Day. 

Ft. Huachuca - annual Memorial Day ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. on May 25 at the Post Cemetery. 

This event is free and open to the public. Major General Robert Ashley, commanding general of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Ft. Huachuca will speak.  

The Widowed Support Center, Gold Star Wives and the Society of Military Widows will dedicate wreaths to fallen service members.  A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will read VFW General Order #1.  The Military Intelligence Corps Band will provide music for the event and a rifle squad from the Fort Huachuca Select Honor Guard will render the 21-gun salute.  

At noon, a firing battery from the Fort Huachuca Select Honor Guard will render the National Salute with five canons located on Reservoir Hill.

Funeraria Del Angel South Lawn Cemetery - Events during Memorial Day weekend at 5401 South Park Avenue

Friday, May 22 - free screening of The Sandlot, concessions sold will benefit the Arizona Fisher House. The movie will begin at 7:30 p.m. 

Saturday, May 23 beginning at 8 a.m. Boy Scouts will place flags on veterans graves across the cemetery. There will also be a Memorial Museum as well that takes place May 23 to 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Monday, May 25 - 9 a.m. services with VFW Post 549. The Tucson Concert Band will perform Taps.  A color presentation will be presented by Tucson Detachment 007 Marine Corps League and Piper William Don Carlos followed by a rifle salute and dove release. 

A barbeque will be served immediately following the ceremony on Monday, at 10 a.m. U.S. Representative Martha McSally is scheduled to speak at the event. 

East Lawn Palms Mortuary & Cemetery - Memorial Day service for all veterans. at 5801 East Grant Road

Saturday, May 23 beginning at 8 a.m. Boy Scouts will place flags on veterans graves across the cemetery.  At 7:30 p.m. there will be a free screening of Space Jam, with concession and raffle proceeds benefiting Arizona Fisher House. 

Monday, May 25 - 9 a.m. Service by VFW 4903, the Sons of Orpheus will perform a musical selection. Bulk Fuel Company Alpha along with Piper Tammy Simmons will present colors. There will be a rifle salute as well as a Taps performance by bugler Skye van Duuren with dove release. 

A barbeque will be served at 10 a.m. immediately following all ceremonies. Retired Army Major Brenda Lloyd is scheduled to speak.
