PHOENIX (Tucson News Now) - Arizona Department of Transportation crews have lifted traffic restrictions along State Route 87, as the agency completes safety improvement work near Sunflower.
Since construction began in October, drivers between Phoenix and Payson have encountered multiple traffic restrictions related to the $6.2 million project, which has reconstructed an existing curve. Officials said this makes it easier for vehicles to navigate the area.
The construction also gave way to a new runaway escape route, located near milepost 228. This will help out of control trucks, which may have inoperable brakes, come to a safe stop.
Though most of the roadwork is finished, ADOT said drivers may still encounter intermittent lane closures on State Route 87 through June.
