NCAA West Preliminary Entries Announced

Tucson, Ariz. – On Thursday, the NCAA announced the accepted entries for the NCAA West Preliminaries in Austin, Texas on May 28-30. The top 48 athletes in each individual event and the top 24 relays qualify for the event in each region. From there, the top 12 finishers in each event (individual and relays) advance to the NCAA Championships on June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore. This list is not completely final, the deadline for medical scratches is on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET.

On the men's side on the track, freshman Tyrell Johnson will compete in the 100-meter sprint. Senior Pete Lauderdale II, junior Blake Eichler and sophomore Bryce Houston will run in the 400 meters. Sophomore Collins Kibet is set to run in the 800-meter race. Senior Sam Macaluso will compete in the 5K for the Wildcats. Sophomore Miles Parish will run in the 400-meter hurdles and both 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams will compete.

For the field events on the men's side, junior Pau Tonnesen will high jump for the Wildcats. Sophomore Aaron Castle will throw the shot put and sophomore Gerhard de Beer will throw the discus. Senior Daniel Whitham is set to throw the hammer and redshirt sophomore Jonny Giess will throw the javelin.

On the track for the UA women, freshman Tatum Waggoner will run the 200-meter sprint and 400-meter sprint. Freshman Diana Gajda and sophomore Jasper Gray will both run the 400-meter sprint as well. Redshirt junior Kate Penney will compete in the 1,500-meter race. Senior Elvin Kibet will run the 5K and 10. Senior Kristina Aubert will join Kibet in the 10,000-meter race. Redshirt junior Molly Callahan is set to represent the Wildcats in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Junior Traci-Lynn Hicks will run the 100-meter hurdles. Juniors Nnenya Hailey and Morgan Struble will run the 400-meter hurdles for the Wildcats. UA also has both relay teams set to compete.

For the field events, sophomore Lisanne Hagens will high jump. Sophomores Alyssa Thompson and Aleah Hurst will long jump.
