Continued construction on SR 86 slows Sells drivers

SELLS, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Commuters headed out on Ajo Way, west of Tucson, should pack extra patience this week.

Arizona Department of Transportation crews will work to improve the drainage on State Route 86 (Ajo Way) just east of Sells through Friday. They will install drainage culverts as part of an ongoing improvement project.

This will cause 15 minute traffic delays on Ajo Way between mileposts 111 and 121 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. A pilot car will be on scene to guide drivers through each direction of the two-mile construction area.

This is part of a project to widen State Route 86. When the work is finished, it will give way to a 12 foot travel lane in each direction, newly constructed, eight foot shoulders, added turn lanes in select locations and extended drainage culverts.

Always remember to move through construction zones slowly and carefully. Keep an eye out for construction workers and equipment at all times.
