TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
May 2015 was one wet month here in the states, and even here in Arizona. We had a very cool and wet month with temperatures well below average and heavy rain in some spots of the state.
The United States (lower 48) had its wettest month ever on record last month as heavy rain soaked the mid section of the county. Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma had their wettest Mays ever while Texas and Oklahoma had their wettest month ever. Arizona and most of the states to the west of the Mississippi River saw well above normal rainfall.
The states averaged 4.36 inches of rain, which is 1.45 inches above the usual for the month. This beat the previous wettest May ever by a tenth of an inch and the previous wettest month ever (October 2009) by .05".
It was not all good news for the drought out west though. California had another drier than average month which just made the drought conditions worse than it already was. Most of the state is in an exceptional drought and could take years for it to recover.
