Wade Road closes Monday as part of long term project

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A road will temporarily shut down on the southwest side Monday, as part of the long term widening work along Valencia Road.

Wade Road will close at Valencia Road on Monday, June 15. It will remain closed through July 2. Speeds on Valencia Road will also slow to 25 miles per hour between Wade Road and Mark Road, so keep this in mind when diving east or west.

During this time, workers will mill out the south side of the Wade Road/Valencia Road intersection. They'll also install conduits, pipe sleeves, concrete curbs, build up the grade and pave out the intersection.

Valencia Road traffic will shift to the north side of the roadway while this takes place. Travelers who normally use Wade Road should try Camino Verde as an alternate.

This long term widening project in Valencia Road involves an eventual two to four lane expansion. This will include bike lanes, a multi-use path and sidewalks throughout the corridor. This project should wrap up by fall of 2016.

Always remember to drive slowly and carefully through this and all construction zones. Look out for construction workers and equipment.
