Trio of Cats Earn All-American Accolades

TUCSON, AZ - The postseason honors continue to roll in for three University of Arizona baseball players as Baseball America and D1Baseball.com released All-America teams on Thursday.

Scott Kingery, the Pac-12 Player of the Year, was named a first-team All-American by both outlets. He was joined by three-time Pac-12 All-Conference honoree Kevin Newman, who was named a second-team All-American by D1baseball.com and a third-team All-American by Baseball America. Sophomore third baseman Bobby Dalbec was recognized as a second-team All-American by Baseball America.

A junior from Phoenix, Ariz., Kingery has effectively earned consensus All-American status. The conference batting champ (.392) has recently been recognized on All-America lists by Louisville Slugger and the National College Baseball Writers Association. In addition, the second baseman was tabbed All-West Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association. On Monday, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Newman, a junior from Poway, Calif., previously collected third-team All-America accolades from Louisville Slugger. A starter at shortstop for all 165 games of his career with the Wildcats, Newman was also an ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region selection and a member of the Pac-12 All-Defensive team. He became the 16th player in program history to be drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft when we selected No. 19 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday evening.

The second-team All-America honors from Baseball America are the first for Dalbec, who also starred as a pitcher for the Wildcats. Like his junior teammates, Dalbec was an All-Conference honoree and member of the league's All-Defensive team. The Parker, Colo., native was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region team this week. He has been selected to play for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team this summer.

Kingery, Newman and Dalbec are all eligible to become ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans due to their status as first team All-West Region representatives. The organization is set to releases its All-America teams Saturday, June 13.
