Sidewalk project kicks off in Huachuca City

HUACHUCA CITY, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A sidewalk project will cause delays in Huachuca City, near Sierra Vista, at the end of this week.

Arizona Department of Transportation will start the sidewalk additions along State Route 90 between School Drive and Patton Street beginning Friday, June 26. They'll also begin construction on School Drive between State Route 90 and Gila Street.

Construction activities will kick off with the clearing of vegetation in the area, followed by the demolition of the existing curb and gutter. The new sidewalks and gutter areas will meet Americans With Disabilities Act requirements, according to ADOT officials.

Other improvements will include landscaping, irrigation sleeves beneath the sidewalks, a pedestrian rest area with seating, trash receptacles, drainage improvements, utility adjustments and monument signs near the edge of city limits.

Work will take place Monday through Thursday during daytime hours. Delays should last through October 2015.

Drivers should only see minimal delays, with shoulder closures along westbound SR 90. Some lane closures are also possible, if needed.

Always remember to approach any work zone slowly and cautiously. Look out for construction workers and equipment.
