RESET: Tucson and Pueblo will meet for Babe Ruth state title

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

It’ll be an all-Southern Arizona final for the 18-under Babe Ruth Baseball state championship after all.

Tucson High Badgers defeated the Sierra Vista Stars Thursday night 10-5 in 11 innings to earn the position in the Babe Ruth Baseball State 18U championship game versus Pueblo High (Pride Baseball) at 5:00 PM Friday at Kino Sports Complex Field 4.

The Stars (3-2) were trailing 4-3 going to the bottom of the 7th and tied it to send the game to extra innings. The Badgers (5-1) scored a run in the top of the 8th to take a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the 8th inning the Stars loaded the bases with nobody out, but could only manufacture one run to tie the game again and send into the 9th inning.

In the top of the 11th inning, the Badgers scored five times on a combination of small ball and timely hitting.

If the Badgers defeat the Pride in the first game, a second game will be played 30 minutes after the first game has been completed to determine the state champion and the right to advance to the Pacific Southwest Regional tournament at Modesto, California starting July 23rd.

Winner of the regional advances to the World Series to be held at Klamath Falls, Oregon.
