Tucson, AZ -- FC Tucson has earned their second consecutive Mountain Division Championship and the accompanying berth in the playoffs. For fans, that means another chance to see the men in black at Kino Sports Complex take on Albuquerque Sol to kickoff the postseason.
The match is set for Saturday, July 18th at 7:30 PM at Kino North Stadium.
The winner of this play-in game moves on to the regional semifinals, with the winners going on to the regional finals. That winner will then advance towards the national semifinals, competing against the best teams in the PDL.
Last year, FC Tucson fought their way to the Western Conference Championship of the regional finals. However, they lost to the Kitsap Pumas. The Pumas made it all the way to the National Championship, losing to the Michigan Bucks by a single point. Kitsap will again be competition in the playoffs this year as one of the few undefeated teams in the PDL.
The fight or die nature of the PDL playoffs means there is nowhere to go but forward. A loss would mean the end of the road for FC Tucson. Needless to say, the stakes are high.
The last home match against Albuquerque on the 4th of July ended in a win for Tucson, who defended their title as the champions of the Southwest Showdown and took home the Rattler Trophy for the second time in a row.
