Houghton Road intersection shuts down for waterline work

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The intersection at Houghton Road and 22nd Street will close this weekend, as City of Tucson officials relocate a waterline.

The closure will move into place at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 17 and it should reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. on Monday, July 20. Local traffic (people who live or work in the area) will be allowed through while this takes place.

In addition to the waterline relocation, TDOT will also perform other extensive construction work. This should shorten the overall traffic impact in this area over time, they said in a press release.

To get around this closure, drivers can take Old Spanish Trail to Harrison Road, head north to Broadway Boulevard, then turn right to head east back to Houghton Road.

This is part of the long time Houghton Road improvement project, scheduled to last through 2016. For more information, visit http://www.tucsonaz.gov/projects/houghton-road
