Marana rescue horse receives star treatment at local hair salon

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A local rescue horse received some tender love and care courtesy of a Marana hair salon on Friday, July 17.

Valkyrie, a rescue horse from the Wild Hearts Rescue Ranch in Marana, visited the Tucson Great Clips hair salon on North Silverbell Road as part of the salon's latest campaign to encourage more acts of kindness.

Val was found emaciated and living in a corral in Phoenix by a 20-year-old University of Arizona student through an ad on Craigslist.

Wild Hearts Rescue Ranch owner Jessica Gray said the event could help save another animal's life.

"Any time that my time and my ability to fund-raise is aided at all, it provides the opportunity for me to rescue more animals," said Gray. "We have a baby pig at the rescue, we have goats, we have dogs that come in. Of course, we have horses all the time that are in need of our help and helping out with Val very possibly may even save another life."

Gray said Val is experiencing some dental problems and will be under the rescue ranch's care for the next year.

Great Clips donated $500 towards Val's recovery.
