TUCSON, Ariz. – Redshirt sophomore quarterback Anu Solomon was named to the Manning Award Watch List, it was announced on Thursday. He is one of four Pac-12 signal callers recognized. To recap, Solomon is also included on the Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch Lists.
Solomon started all 14 games in 2014 after becoming the first freshman ever to start a season opener for the school. He threw for 3,793 yards with 313 completions on 540 attempts and 28 passing TDs while averaging 270.9 yards per game. He recorded two games with five touchdown passes and led all FBS freshman quarterbacks in passing yards.
An All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honoree, he was a Polynesian Hall of Fame Player of the Year Finalist, a three-time Manning Award Player of the Week and a two-time Davey O’Brien Player of the Week
The Athlon Sports National Freshman of the Week (9/2/14), Solomon also rushed for 291 yards and two scores. He set career game highs of 105 rushing yards (vs. Colorado), 16 rushes (vs. Colorado), 73 pass attempts (vs. California), 520 passing yards (vs. California) and 566 yards of total offense (vs. California).
The Wildcats’ season opener hosting UTSA will be played on Thurs., Sept. 3 at Arizona Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MST/PT on Pac-12 Networks.
