BURBANK, CA - The best linebacker in the Pac-12 might be from Tucson and it's not Scooby Wright.
Stanford's Blake Martinez is ready to throw his name into the conversation for the conference's best man in the middle.
The 2012 Canyon del Oro High School product begins his senior season in Palo Alto as one of the leaders of a defense that hopes to take the Cardinal back to the top of the Pac-12's North Division.
The inside linebacker was Stanford's leading tackler with 102 (53 solo) in 2014, as the Cardinal posted the No. 2 scoring defense in the nation.
Martinez's efforts helped Stanford rank No. 1 in the Pac-12 in scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense and passing defense. He tied for the team lead with three interceptions and was tied for fifth with 4.5 sacks on his way to All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors.
Martinez spoke on Thursday at Pac-12 Media Day of Stanford's brand of football known as Intellectual Brutality.
