Special Olympics softball team brings home hardware

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Color them gold.

Arizona’s Special Olympics Softball team took home some gold medals this weekend at the World Games in Los Angeles, California.

The squad which included seven players from Southern Arizona won the Softball 2 Division that featured teams from Canada, Mexico and Missouri.

Arizona initially played in the Softball 1 Division but was swept in Pool play by the much-more powerful Latin American teams from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

The squad went down to the 2nd Division after Pool play and beat Mexico 15-6 before knocking off Missouri 22-5 in that division's gold medal game.

Arizona went 2-3 in their five games.
