TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A series of traffic restrictions will take place through September, while construction crews continue a sewer project on the northeast side.
The 10-mile North Rillito Interceptor Project will play out in phases, with the first portion taking place on Tanque Verde Road, between Pantano Road and Woodland Road.
During the week of August 3, the contractor will begin sewer rehabilitation on Woodland Road. To accommodate this, traffic will shift around the work areas. Alternate, one way traffic may also be in place here.
Beginning Monday, August 10, the westbound travel lanes on Tanque Verde Road will close to all traffic between Woodland Road and Pantano Road. While this closure is in place, workers will remove a portion of the center median. This will allow drivers in both directions to shift to the eastbound side of the road.
Because of this, Tanque Verde Road will reduce to one lane in each direction, according to a press release.
Travelers in the area should plan for delays and use alternate routes when possible. Speedway Boulevard should be the best, closest way to get around the cone zone. Bicyclists and pedestrians also need to use caution when heading through the work zone.
