TUCSON – Arizona volleyball junior setter Penina Snuka has been named to the preseason all-conference team, the Pac-12 announced on Tuesday.
Snuka and 13 others were named to the team as voted on by the conference’s coaches.
The Gilbert, Ariz., native is set to lead the team after an all-conference and honorable-mention All-America sophomore campaign. Snuka averaged 10.82 assists/set on the year, good for fifth in the Pac-12 and 48th in the NCAA. The sophomore was also the only non-libero in the top 10 in the Pac-12 in digs; Snuka was eighth with 3.97 digs/set. The setter led the Pac-12 in double-doubles with 25.
Additionally, the Pac-12 released the preseason coaches’ poll on Tuesday. Arizona, which finished third in the league in 2014, was selected seventh.
Arizona is coming off its best season in nearly a decade (24-10, 12-8 Pac-12) in which the Cats advanced the second round of the NCAA Tournament. UA has made five trips to the big dance in the last six seasons.
The Cats open up the season on Aug. 28 in the SMU Invite in Dallas, Texas. The Cats take on SMU, Texas State and Abilene Christian in the tournament. UA opens its home slate the following week when it hosts the Wildcat Classic Sept. 4 and 5.
