TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Salpointe Catholic controlled the action against Nogales Thursday night in their tune-up for the 2015 high school football season.

Both squads will open the campaign in Week 0. Nogales has a road date at Phoenix Shadow Mountain while the Lancers will host Gilbert Campo Verde.

Salpointe Catholic was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last season coming of their state championship run in 2013.

The Lancers will lean on defensive lineman Justin Holt, one the top players in the state, who is committed this summer to Rich Rodriguez’s UA program.

The Apaches are back in Division III as a result this past winter’s realignment. Nogales went 8-12 the past two seasons playing in Division II; this after back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2011 and 2012 that included a state semifinal run in 2012.

Nogales is led by four-year starter Coy Colgate who averaged seven yards per carry as a fullback last season while putting up 13 tackles a game as the team’s middle linebacker.
