TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Southwest side drivers will face delays for the next few weeks when they head out on Camino Verde near Valencia Road.
Pima County Department of Transportation will begin a reconstruction project in this area on Monday, August 17. Construction crews will mill and grade the southbound side of the roadway, about 1,000 feet north of Valencia Road. Workers will also improve conditions of intersecting driveways during this time.
Those living in the area should still have access to their homes, but plan for minor delays. The speed limit will reduce to 25 miles per hour.
Camino Verde will then close to all traffic beginning Monday, August 24. Pima County officials said this closure will allow the contractor to mill and remove any remaining pavement on the road, place additional fill in the street's alignment, install new traffic signals and complete final grading and paving.
This is part of a long term widening project happening on Valencia Road. Once this project is finished, travelers will see a wider road with bike lanes, drainage improvements, a multi-use path and sidewalks throughout the corridor.
This should wrap up by the fall of 2016.
