Plan for surge in campus traffic as UA classes begin

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tucson drivers should expect heavier traffic near The University of Arizona this week, as students move back to campus and prepare for the first day of fall classes.

Travelers should plan for extra time in each direction of Campbell Avenue, between Broadway Boulevard and Speedway Boulevard and on Speedway Boulevard between Campbell Avenue and Euclid Avenue.

Some other areas of note include Sixth Street between Euclid Avenue and Campbell Avenue, and Euclid Avenue between about Speedway Boulevard and Broadway Boulevard.

Grant Road could see some slowing as well between Mountain Avenue and Campbell Avenue, as many UA students live in that area.

In addition, drivers should be careful when heading out near dorms and other UA buildings. Crosswalks on parts of Speedway Boulevard and Sixth Street will also see a surge in pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Finally, for those who normally park on or near campus, it's important to mention that most UA parking lots and garages will most likely be full once campus move in days take place, from Thursday, August 20 through Saturday, August 22.

These areas should see a swell of cars on Monday, August, 24 as well, as this is the official first day of the fall 2015 semester.
