TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Mark Melancon is tied for the most saves in baseball.

He recorded his 41st of the season Thursday night in Pittsburgh’s 2-1 win over Miami.

St. Louis’s Trevor Rosenthal matched that number later in the evening when the Cardinals completed a four-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Melancon, a 2006 UA product, is having a career season. It’s the first time in his career he has saved more than 40 games, eclipsing the 33 he had in 2014.

He had saved 35 games in a row before that streaked was snapped by the Diamondbacks earlier this month.

Since coming to the Pirates prior to the 2013 season, Melancon has saved 90 games. He currently has a 1.48 ERA in 62 appearances.
