Arizona Adds Texas Tech Czarniak

TUCSON, Ariz.—Arizona women's tennis head coach Vicky Maes announced the team has added junior transfer student Samantha Czarniak for the 2015-2016 season, a move that will undoubtedly strengthen an already impressive roster.

"Samantha Czarniak is a wonderful addition to our program," said Maes. "She brings a wealth of experience to the team and a level of maturity that will greatly benefit our group. I'm very happy she chose to come here after spending her first two years at Texas Tech. Above all, she is a driven young woman and I feel she has a lot of untapped potential."

Czarniak, a native of São Paulo Brazil, comes to the U of A after playing two seasons with Texas Tech where she compiled a 23-17 overall record including a 9-7 mark in dual play.

During her sophomore year at Tech, Czarniak went 11-4 during the fall and 1-1 in the spring, playing at the No.6 spot in both of her dual matches.

Czarniak's freshman campaign saw her obtain a spring record of 7-5 with all but one win coming from the No. 6 position. She went 3-2 in conference matches and gained experience in doubles play, going 3-5.

Prior to her collegiate career, Czarniak won the 2010 ITF Quito doubles title in Quito Ecuador alongside Laura Ucros and the 2011 ITF Bahia Juniors Cup doubles title in Salvador, Brazil, this time with Ingrid Martins. As a junior at Externato Mater Domus high school, Czarniak was ranked as high as No. 215 in the world by the ITF.
