TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The two best prep golfers in Southern Arizona squared off Wednesday afternoon at a tri-meet at Randolph North Golf Course.
Salpointe Catholic's Trevor Werbylo and Catalina Foothills' Gavin Cohen finished 2nd and 3rd last year in the Division II state tournament. Werbylo got the best of Cohen again as he shot a three-under par 33 to win the event. Cohen finished at one-under with a 35.
The Lancers (3-0) won the tri-meet by three shots over the Falcons. Cienega finished a distant third.
Werbylo had an excellent spring season on the Junior Golf Association of Arizona circuit. The junior came away with five top-five finishes including a win at the Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic.
He currently ranks 11th in the state on the junior golf circuit while Cohen comes in at 13th.
The Falcons' junior carded four JGAA top-five finishes of his own this year, including a pair of second places.
