Improvement work begins on I-19 near Tumacacori

TUMACACORI, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Bridgework and roadway improvements will cause long term slowing a portion of I-19 near Tumacacori, according to Arizona Department of Transportation.

Crews will reduce the highway to one lane in each direction on Friday, September 11 through about 4:30 p.m. Travelers can expect intermittent ramp closures at the Tumacacori Traffic Interchange during this time as well. Palo Parado Road is a good alternate highway access option.

Restrictions will kick off again on Monday, September 14. ADOT will keep lane closures in place around the clock through October for bridgework.

This is all part of a $4.1 million improvement project, set to finish in spring of 2016. Workers will completely resurface I-19 from Palo Parado Road to Tubac and improve both the Tumacacori and Arroyo Angulo Agudo bridges.

Drivers should travel slowly and carefully through this and any work zone. The schedule is set to shift depending on weather conditions.
