TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Abstract Expressionist artist Karin Swanson explores color and composition by means of texture and stroke. Her work, which is seductive and intriguing, inspires contemplation and a sense of pensive adventure. Currently showing at Phelony Art Gallery, Swanson’s work has been displayed nationally and has won critical acclaim.

Meet Swanson in person at the Phelony Art Gallery in the Tucson Mall on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.

While growing up in Wichita Kan., Swanson watched her father, renowned artist Charles H. Sanderson, paint, helped prepare for art shows and had a love for art. Swanson did not start painting seriously until 1991 when she returned to college at Wichita State University studying art history. Sitting in the auditoriums listening to lectures and studying art history brought the artistic drive to the surface.

After showing her work to her father and receiving her first critique in 1992, she realized that all those years of watching and learning had paid off. Using acrylic paint on canvas, she began to explore the medium, develop her talent and expression of color.
