Group launches effort to keep holiday spending local

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Downtown Tucson Partnership is trying to keep holiday spending within the local economy.

The eGift Card can be purchased online and can be used at more than 70 downtown businesses for product, food and drinks. Recipients can use the card by downloading the InstaGift app onto a smartphone and checking a list of businesses where they can spend it.

Businesses already are looking forward to a holiday season in which visitors are encouraged to spend their money in places such as Fed by Threads and Proper restaurant.

"By bringing attention to one of our businesses, we advocate for all of our businesses," said Alok Appadurai with Fed by Threads. "We're expecting to double from last year."

"We are actually rolling out a new menu," said Tafao Faumuina with Proper. "We all refer people to other places."
