Tucson woman creates app to block bullying

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Tucson woman has developed a mobile application to block mean and hateful messages on social media and phone texting.

Michele Joel created the My Social Sitter app to combat an issue that hit home for her.

Joel said she was bullied as a child.

She is working with various schools to get more parents and students using this tool.

She said the app has 1,600 users across Arizona, Colorado, Indiana and Nevada.

The app works as a filter, and it can be downloaded to a child's mobile device.

When a child attempts to send out a mean or hateful message through social media, the app blocks the message from being delivered. Parents are then notified with an email.
