Salpointe advances to state volleyball Final Four

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

In the beginning it looked like the Mesquite Mustangs might have a little something for the 4th seeded Salpointe Catholic Lancers.

Some of the same fight they used to oust #5 Ironwood Ridge on Tuesday night. It didn’t last long.

The Wildcats took an early 6-2 lead in the opening set but the Lancers behind crisp passing and precision serving quickly turned the match in their favor and cruised to a three-set sweep (25-13, 25-22, 25-21) to advance to the Division II Final Four.

Senior outside-hitter Carly Lowry led the way with 22 kills for the Lancers.

Salpointe Catholic (35-4) will face top seed Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep (30-9) Saturday at Mesquite High School in the state semifinals. First serve at 2 p.m.

Elsewhere in Division II, Sahuaro (22-7) saw their season come to an end as the Cougars lost to Goodyear Millennium 3-1.

Flagstaff joins Millennium, Salpointe Catholic and Notre Dame Prep in the Division II Final Four.
